His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej once spoke of the "teaching” of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother, who urged him to be aware of his duties and responsibilities. She explained to him the special significance of his name. King Bhumibol quoted his mother as saying, "In fact, your name Bhumibol is translated as Strength of the Land."

In the 2017 National Teachers’ Day celebration, the Ministry of Education focuses on the theme "Teacher of the Land,” in remembrance of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Members of the public have been invited to visit the exhibition "The Supreme Artist” in remembrance of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The exhibition is taking place at the Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center on Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue in Bangkok.

On 26 December, the Deputy Prime Minister presided over the Central Pyre Marking Ceremony, which will mark the designated area for the construction of the royal crematorium and surrounding structures in the royal cremation ceremony of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The construction of the royal crematorium is expected to begin in February 2017.

Craftsmen and relevant officials from three government agencies are starting to renovate the royal chariots, royal palanquins, and other accessories to be used in the royal cremation ceremony for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was recognized for his interest in sports, not only as a spectator, but primarily as an active participant. He was an inspiration for Thai athletes and a successful athlete himself.
