Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the full-dress rehearsal of the Royal Cremation procession for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground on 21 October 2017. The three-hour-long rehearsal covered three processions of honor for the transfer of the Royal Urn from Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall to the Royal Crematorium at Sanam Luang.
Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha also participated in today’s rehearsal, which featured uniformed military and palace personnel wearing traditional costumes.
Starting to form the line since Friday evening to watch the rehearsal of the historic ceremony, the public was allowed to enter through the security screening points at 05.00 hr on Saturday morning. Many of them held portraits of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, while attempting to hold back tears, as the processions passed by.
The procession of honor (Rew Khabuan) will take place on 26, 27, and 29 October 2017. It has been arranged into six processions involving around 5,500 personnel clad in colorful traditional uniforms. Officials estimated that Sanam Luang and the surrounding areas should be able to accommodate 40,000 to 50,000 people during the official royal ceremonies.
